Purple Top White Globe Turnip Seeds (Summer Type) 2160 Heirloom Vegetable. To clear up some confusion, this is not a rutabaga. This turnip is an attractive older cultivar introduced before 1890. It produces round roots with a purplish-red top and a white bottom. The flesh is quite crisp and mild tasting. Younger leaves are suitable for salads.
How to Grow
400 seed/gram. Similar in culture to other members of the Brassica family. Sow seed in mid-spring 2-2.5 cm (3/4-1″) deep and 2.5 cm (1″) apart in rows 30 cm (12″) apart. Thin to 12.5 cm (5″) apart after germination. Harvest when the roots are 7.5-10 cm (3-4″) across. Not to be confused with the Rutabaga or Swede.
